SOS Libya was established on 26 February 2011 in response to the urgent food and medical needs of the people in Libya in the aftermath of the 17 February 2011 people's revolution.
We are a Netherlands based non-profit humanitarian organization, comprising Libyans and non-Libyans, whose mission is to alleviate the suffering of the people in Libya.
Our registration number is 52193802 and our tax number is 850337689.
With over 10,000 deaths and thousands more injured, Libya is experiencing a humanitarian crisis of the like of which the country has not experienced since the Second World War.
According to the latest UN figures, more than 330,000 people have fled the violence to neigbouring Tunisia and Egypt.
Libya is a food import-dependent country as due to its arid climate only a small amount of food is produced locally. 80% of food is imported and the food supply chain has collapsed after ships stopped docking and distribution is hampered by the violence. Food is starting to run out and The World Food Programme expects the food crisis to worsen.
Pharmacies and hospitals throughout the country have run out of essential medications such as anesthesia, anti-biotics, insuline and chronic medicines for blood pressure, diabetes and heart conditions. The hospitals cannot cope anymore with the large amount of those killed and injured. The International Committee of the Red Cross has stated that the humanitarian situation in Libya is getting worse by the hour.
We are a group of volunteers dedicated to help the people in Libya during these tumulteous and difficult times.
We comprise Libyans and non-Libyans who work or have worked in the country.
With a vast network of connections and people on the ground in Tunisia, Egypt and inside Libya, we can deliver aid directly to those that need it the most throughout all of Libya.
